How Powerpoint is killing critical thought

A good read as we prepare our presentations

  1. I distinctly remember going on college visits and being incredibly turned off by how counselors would basically just read off slides random stats about why I should attend said college. People tend to forget the importance of animation, body language, eye contact, and style in public speaking, in favor of PowerPoint. Great find!

  2. I think working without a powerpoint also allows the lecturer to deviate a little bit from the lecture plan, which can sometimes lead to very productive and worthwhile trains of thought and discussions with the class.

  4. This is interesting. It also reminds me of a similar argument given for how computers are less effective for studying, critical thinking, and creativity because you can so easily just mindlessly type but to write something physically on paper with pencil requires more thought and you know that you can't just push the delete button you have to actually erase or scratch it out and the fact that you write slower than you type forces you to spend more time thinking about what it is you are writing.
